Employment Testing
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of Progressive's pre-employment test?
Testing helps us choose the right people for the right jobs by evaluating candidates' qualifications, fit with
Progressive's values and potential for success on the job. Also through testing, candidates can learn about our
organization and decide if this is the right place for them.
What will I need to take the test and how long does it take?
- You'll need a computer with a reliable Internet connection to take the test.
- Give yourself 45-60 minutes of uninterrupted time to complete the test.
- You'll need to complete the test within three business days of receiving this invite. Once you log into the test for the first time, your username and password will be valid for 48 hours.
- If you need to take a break while testing, you must log out of the test by closing your internet browser. By closing your internet browser, the timer on the test will stop and any test responses you have provided up to that point will be saved. When you are ready to finish the test, you'll need to log back in following the instructions provided in your invite e‐mail. Once logged back in, you'll be taken to the point in the test at which you left off.
- Please complete the entire test before you submit your answers. You won't be able to re‐access the test afterward.
Do you have any testing tips for me to consider while I'm taking the test?
- Choose a setting that is comfortable and quiet, with minimal distractions.
- Set aside extra time so you’ll feel relaxed and can complete the test in one sitting.
- Carefully read all the test instructions, questions and response options.
- Think about real‐life examples from past jobs or your current job when responding to the test questions.
- Avoid second‐ guessing or over‐thinking your responses.
- Try your best to complete every question on the test and remember that you don't have to answer every question correctly in order to do well.
How can I prepare for the test?
There's no need to study or prepare. We aren't assessing how much you know about a subject or task. We just
want to understand how you reason, draw conclusions and understand trends. We also ask about your work
preferences, preferred work style and situations, and your interests, so we can assess your fit with the job and
within our culture.
When and how will I get my test results?
A recruiter will contact you within two business days after you complete the test to inform you of whether you
qualify to move forward in the selection process.
If I don't pass/meet the hiring requirements, can I retake the test(s)?
Yes. You can retake the test 180 days after your original test date.
Is there feedback available that will help me to do better the next time I take the test?
Progressive does not offer any specific feedback on your test results. Candidates are only told whether or not
they qualified or did not qualify.
How long are my test results good for if I qualify?
Qualified test results are valid at Progressive for two years.
After testing, what other steps will I have to complete before I get a job offer?
If your test results meet job requirements, a recruiter will contact you regarding next steps.
I have years of related experience and I did not pass the test(s). What are you looking for in a candidate?
Even candidates who have related experience may not have the specific skills that are required for similar
positions at Progressive.
Do I have to take the test?
Yes. In order to be considered for the job for which you applied and move forward in the selection process,
you'll need to take the test.
Are there different types of online tests for every job?
No. However, the test scoring/requirements may differ by position.
I don't have a personal computer. What should I do?
You can use any computer that has a reliable Internet connection. A public library is one option to consider.
Can I use my mobile phone or Smart phone to take the test?
No. You'll need to take the test on a computer with a reliable Internet connection. Most mobile phones and
Smart phones don't have the Internet technology to fully support the test's functionality.
What if I don't have an e‐mail account?
You’ll need to create one — and there are plenty of free e‐mail providers from which to choose — in order to
communicate with your recruiter.
What are the system requirements for the test?
The computer you use needs to have Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0, 7.0 or 8.0.
Who do I contact if I have technical problems while I am testing?
Once you've logged into the test, you'll see a technical support link on the bottom of each screen. Use this link
to submit your question or issue and a technical support representative will contact you within one business
day.
