Does it cost anything to participate?
Participating in Snapshot is free. We ask for your credit card information when you get started, but we only charge you if you don’t return your Snapshot device within 60 days of finishing your test drive—it’s a $50 charge per device.

How do I decide which cars to enroll?
You can enroll almost any car built since 1996 in Snapshot; older cars don’t have the diagnostic port that's required for the Snapshot device. We suggest you enroll all your eligible cars, because once you start Snapshot test drive, you won’t be able to add any others.

What happens after enrolling?
In 7 to 10 days, you'll receive a Snapshot device. Plug it into your car, following the instructions that come with it, to start collecting driving information; then, just drive as you normally would for 30 days to take your driving snapshot.

Can I enroll a commercial vehicle into the program?
Snapshot is for private passenger vehicles only. If you’re interested in our commercial vehicle insurance discounts, call 1-888-806-9598 today and get a free quote.

What if I decide I no longer want to test drive Snapshot?
Just call us at 1-877-329-7283 or request a return mailing label to let us know you’re no longer interested. And, be sure to send back the Snapshot device within 60 days of cancelling, using the postage-paid return label that came with the device. If you need a new label, call us and we’ll send you one.

Snapshot Device

How do I know if the device is working?
If you’ve plugged in the Snapshot device correctly, you’ll see a green blinking light. If you don’t see one, review your installation. If the device still doesn’t work, email snapshot_testdrive@email.progressive.com or call 1-877-329-7283, and we’ll help you.

Why does my device beep when I drive?
If you have a Snapshot device with the beep feature and you hear a beep, it means you’ve just made a sudden stop—one of the habits you need to avoid in order to save with Snapshot Discount.

When should I send the device back?
If you decide to buy a Progressive policy, you’ll keep the Snapshot device for another six months. If you don’t want to buy a policy from us, just send back the device within 60 days of finishing your test drive to avoid a $50 charge per device. Be sure to use the postage-paid return label that came with your Snapshot device; if you need a new label, call us and we’ll send you one.

What driving habits do you track?
We track the number of miles you drive, time of day you drive, and how often you make sudden stops. We use this information to calculate your discount, helping you save up to 30 percent off our best rate.

What other information do you collect?
We also collect your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and record when you connect or disconnect the Snapshot device from your car. We don’t track your vehicle location, or whether you speed.

Saving & Switching

How much could I save overall?
You can save up to an additional 30 percent off our best rate.

When will I see my discount?
After we collect 30 days of driving information for all the cars you enrolled in Snapshot, we’ll email you with a link to start a quote. It takes about six minutes to quote and get your personalized Progressive rate.

What do I do if I lost the email, or didn’t get one?
If you don’t have the email, you can start a quote here, as long as you’ve provided 30 days of driving information for all the cars you enroll. Otherwise, we won’t have enough information to calculate your discount.

Do I have to buy my policy now?
You have six months to buy a Progressive auto policy at this personalized rate.

When should I cancel my current insurance?
Keep your current coverage during your test drive. If you decide to buy a Progressive policy at the end of your test drive, we’ll help you switch.

Privacy & Security

Why do you need my credit card information?
