Giving together in times of crisis

In 2011, as in other years, Progressive employees answered the call when crises struck.

Rallying to help those affected by Texas wildfires

The 2011 Texas wildfire season was one of the worst in state history. But without missing a step, groups in our Austin Contact Center organized clothing, food and supply drives.

Working together, Austin employees collected bottled water and snacks for the firefighters. They also donated more than six carloads of food, blankets, toiletries and ice chests for people in need. They gave the food to the Capital Area Food bank, clothing to St. Vincent de Paul, and other supplies to the Austin Disaster Relief Donation Center.

Austin Central Claims Unit management team and other members of management from various business groups also volunteered over 160 hours at both the Capital Area Food Bank and the Central Texas Fire Relief Organization.

Progressive employees in Cleveland and Colorado Springs pitched in as well. Through various internal fundraisers they generously donated more than $4,000 to help co-workers personally affected by the wildfires.

Stepping up for victims in Japan and the U.S. Midwest

The 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan and U.S. spring storms offer more examples of employees helping others. Through our Giving Together site, employees donated more than $20,000 to these efforts. That amount was matched, dollar-for-dollar, by The Progressive Insurance Foundation.

The efforts for Japan included raffles and silent auctions coordinated by our Asian American Network (AA.net) employee resource group. For the U.S. storms, many employees with personal connections to the affected areas organized their own hands-on relief efforts.

Giving together is the Progressive way.

When catastrophes strike, like the 2011 Texas wildfires, our employees reach out to those in need.
