Doing the right things

Operating in a regulated industry, insurance companies are subject to strict legislation and guidelines.

Each year Progressive participates in a multi-industry ethics and compliance survey, benchmarking our activities and compliance results against those of other organizations. Our overall 2010 survey results were in the top tier when compared to other companies. All employees share in this success.

We apply the same vigilance to compliance as we do with everything. Where there’s room for improvement, we seek solutions. For example, in 2010 we recognized ways to improve our commercial vehicle licensing and compliance efforts.

“For years, we’ve addressed commercial vehicle licensing needs but not in a centralized way," says Corporate Fleet Manager Kathy Schulz. "Realizing the complexity of keeping up with what's expected to be compliant with our commercial vehicles (e.g., delivery vehicles and catastrophe claims response trucks), we decided to create a more formal commercial vehicle program in 2011 and outsource much of this work to experts who'll ensure that we're doing everything accurately."

We view compliance as an opportunity to put our Core Values to work. We do the right thing, practice honesty in all of our interactions, communicate results and continually seek ways to improve.

When we set up emergency locations like the one shown above to serve our customers in catastrophe areas, our compliance department ensures that we have all our bases covered so we can focus on helping those in need.
