Three Tips for Getting More from Your Insurance Quote

Posted by Brittany Ritchey on 1/11/2010 at 8:00 AM

You’re (finally!) done holiday shopping—but there might be one thing left thing to buy: auto insurance. If you’re among those who’ll be shopping for a better rate this month, follow these three tips to make sure you’re getting the most from your quote:

Tip #1: Keep necessary information handy. Before you get started, make sure you have a copy of your current car insurance policy. That way, you can fairly compare auto insurance coverages from a new company with what you have now.

Tip #2: Ask questions, and know where to go for answers. You might have questions as you go through the quoting process. The good news is that there are several Progressive resources you can reference for answers:

  • Progressive.com: Do a search for the term you’re unsure about, or browse these car insurance basics.
  • Quoting support: As you complete a quote at progressive.com, you can refer to the “Help & Common Questions” section, or use the “Talk to Me” button to speak with an insurance rep.
  • Twitter: Tweet your question to @ask_progressive to get a response from customer service reps, who manage this Twitter account from 7 a.m. to midnight on weekdays.

Tip #3: Get comparison rates. In most states and situations, Progressive Direct quotes include the option to get rates from other top insurance companies. Take a few extra minutes to do this, and you’ll get good information you can use in your decision-making. However, remember to follow tip #1, to make sure you’re choosing a good value, not just a cheap auto insurance rate.
