With Halloween coming up, you’ve probably already chatted with your kids about their costumes. What’s fun, what’s “in,” what’s warm … maybe even what’ll help them stand out—and stay safe—on the sidewalks.
Since early evening is prime time for trick-or-treating—and unfortunately, for serious accidents involving cars and pedestrians—it’s best for kids to wear bright costumes, so drivers can better see them in the dark. Costumes that are white, which reflects light, or yellow, the first color the human eye notices, are good choices, along with anything that glows.
With this in mind, here are five bright costume picks:
Glowworm
Bright feature: Bands of bright colors (It’s a great option for tiny trick-or-treaters, too.)
Flo (from our TV commercials)
Bright feature: White pants and a white apron—plus, a tricked-out nametag! (See all 10 accessories you need to dress like Flo.)
Skeleton
Bright feature: White—or even glow-in-the-dark— bones
Construction worker
Bright feature: A bright yellow or orange reflective vest
“TRON: Legacy®” user
Bright feature: Glow-in-the-dark piping (Bonus: Enter Disney’s Get on the Grid Sweepstakes, sponsored by Progressive, to win more “Tron: Legacy” stuff.)
And don’t forget about glow-in-the-dark accessories, from shoelaces to gloves.
