I cannot believe that folks would willingly let insurance companies become Big Brother for their driving habits. Insurance companies are not a non-profit organization. Anyone that believes that insurance companies won't use the info they obtain to their advantage and not the consumer are living in fantasy land. There have been too many examples over the years where insurance carriers will disclaim coverage for a variety of reasons. This one would be a slam dunk for them...1 mph over the speed limit and do you really believe they will cover your accident with no repercussions up to and including cancelation of your policy or jacking your premiums to ungodly levels? Get real. We have insurance carriers that don't give a damn about the 5th amendment. Now, I doubt they'll have the guts to include this comment in their site. Probably not but it would be a good surprise.

@R. Ukidding, Snapshot is a voluntary, discount-only program in which drivers can save money on their car insurance by sharing a picture of their driving habits with us. The discount is not based on location or speed. In fact, the device doesn't have GPS, so we don’t know where the car is. In addition, we don’t take into account how fast the car goes. We only share Snapshot driving data if it’s necessary or appropriate to prevent fraud, perform research or comply with the law. For more information about how we protect Snapshot information, visit www.progressive.com/Snapshot/Snapshot-privacy-statement.aspx. Also, here’s a link to more information about the program in case you have questions: www.progressive.com/snapshot/common-questions.aspx.

I think this is actually a great idea. What R. Ukidding fails to understand is that the lower insurance companies losses are the more everyone saves. This is a good idea to help accurately rate drivers and give them a discount for helping all policy holders and Progressive save money.
