Web Site Security

Whether you're buying online or servicing your Progressive insurance policy, you can feel confident that we take extensive measures to secure your personal information.

Ways We Protect Your Information

Encryption

Progressive uses 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology to ensure your transactions are secure. SSL converts your information into a secret code and lets your browser know that our Web site is authentic.

After you start exchanging information with our Web site, you will see a lock at the bottom of your browser and "https:" in the address bar, which signifies SSL is at work. Be sure the lock is "closed" and appears in the browser frame instead of within the Web site's page.

Masking

Masking replaces letters and numbers of personal information displayed on the screen with a symbol such an asterisk (*). When we display your personal information online, we use symbols to hide information such as Social Security and bank account numbers.

User IDs and Passwords

Once you purchase a policy, you must enter a user ID and password to access your policy online. Your pass codes are unique to you. We also ask you to answer questions that we store as "shared secrets." If you forget your user ID and password, we ask you to answer these questions so we may verify your identity.

Firewalls

The servers that run our sites are protected by firewalls - systems that prevent unauthorized access to our networks. We also use specially designed software to continuously monitor our systems.
