Community Outreach
Believing in something bigger than ourselves
As a company, we invest in the success of our communities. We encourage employees to volunteer locally and contribute to the causes they care about through The Progressive Insurance Foundation. We also support larger initiatives like our Keys to Progress® community outreach programs and education initiatives.
Progressive people lead the way
We established The Progressive Insurance Foundation in 2001 as part of our company’s overall charitable efforts. Our goal is to support causes our people care about while reaching the widest array of communities where we—and our customers—live and work.
To help achieve this goal, we offer a charitable giving program called Name Your Cause. The program offers each of Progressive’s more than 50,000 employees the annual opportunity to recommend a favorite charity to receive a monetary gift of $100—complements of The Progressive Insurance Foundation.
Any qualified civic, cultural, educational, environmental, health care, human services, or religious 501(c)(3) public, tax-exempt charitable organization may be eligible.
Helping others
When Progressive people have an opportunity to make a difference in their communities, they jump into action.
In addition to financial contributions, we encourage and support our employees in giving back to their communities through volunteerism and other charitable efforts.
In 2021, Progressive people in at least 36 states gave back to their communities in various ways, including participating in at least 175 local and virtual events countrywide, collecting and donating thousands of needed items, and fundraising for multiple causes.
A focus on veterans, homelessness, and education
We continue to devote time, energy, and resources to help military men and women facing tough challenges with vehicle donations through the Keys to Progress® vehicle giveaway program. Since 2013, we have gifted more than 800 vehicles to veterans in need.
Through the program, we donate vehicles to veteran-focused organizations as well to provide the types of transportation they need to better serve our veterans. This outreach effort also gives us an opportunity to team up with many business organizations we work with day in and day out to do something good together within our communities.
In 2020, we added homelessness as a new cause area by joining efforts with Humble Design, a non-profit group that serves individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming their empty house into a warm, welcoming, and uplifting home with donated furniture and household goods.
We embraced the opportunity to bring their services to our headquarters location in Cleveland and are engaging Progressive people with Humble Design’s other operations in Detroit, Chicago, Seattle and San Diego. Helping to furnish homes for the homeless is a natural extension to our Keys to Progress community outreach efforts and another expression of our values in action.
Progressive people also are passionate about participating in education-related efforts. They engage with local schools by presenting a curriculum of internally developed courses available for students in grades 3 through 12 to help them understand how financial literacy and classroom skills apply to real-life situations and can lead to insurance careers. Since 2013, we’ve taught courses to more than 34,000 elementary, middle and high school students across the country.
To support education and our communities, we also donated PC equipment and office supplies to educational institutions and individuals in underrepresented Cleveland-area communities.
