Believing in something bigger than ourselves
As a company, we invest in the success of our communities. We encourage employees to volunteer locally and contribute to the causes they care about through The Progressive Insurance Foundation. We also support larger initiatives like our Keys to Progress® community outreach programs and education initiatives.
Progressive people lead the way
Progressive people can contribute to causes they care about through The Progressive Insurance Foundation. Established in 2001, the Foundation gives back to communities by supporting charities that Progressive people support. We consider any qualified civic, cultural, educational, environmental, health care, human services, or religious 501(c)(3) public, tax-exempt charitable organization as eligible under the program.
The Progressive Corporation contributes annually to the Progressive Insurance Foundation. When an employee gives any amount from $20 to $3,000 to a qualified 501(c)(3) charity and requests a matching gift, the Foundation commits to matching those dollars up to 100 percent, depending on the number of requests and the company’s profitability that year.
It’s simple. We give where our employees give.
When Progressive people have an opportunity to make a difference in their communities, they jump into action.
In addition to financial contributions, we encourage and support our employees giving back to their communities through volunteerism and other charitable efforts.
In 2019, Progressive people in at least 46 states gave back to their communities in various ways, including participating in at least 640 local events countrywide, collecting and donating thousands of needed items, and raising more than $116,800 for multiple causes in addition to the employee donations matched through The Progressive Insurance Foundation.
More than 3,700 (3,706) charities received a Matching Gift of $20 - $3,000 from the Foundation based on 2019 employee donations—totaling more than $4.7 million.

A focus on veterans, homelessness, and education
We continue to devote time, energy, and resources to help military men and women facing tough challenges with vehicle donations through the Keys to Progress® vehicle giveaway program. Since 2013, we have gifted more than 750 vehicles to veterans in need.
Through the program, we donate vehicles to veteran-focused organizations as well to provide the types of transportation they need to better serve our veterans. This outreach effort also gives us an opportunity to team up with many business organizations we work with day in and day out to do something good together within our communities.
In 2019, we added homelessness as a new cause area by providing $450,000 in funding through The Progressive Insurance Foundation and joining efforts with Humble Design , a non-profit group that serves individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming their empty house into a warm, welcoming, and uplifting home with donated furniture and household goods.
In 2020, we are embracing the opportunity to bring their services to our headquarters location in Cleveland and engage Progressive people with Humble Design’s other operations in Detroit, Chicago, Seattle and San Diego. Helping to furnish homes for the homeless is a natural extension to our Keys to Progress community outreach efforts and another expression of our values in action.
Progressive people also are passionate about participating in education-related efforts. They engage with local schools by presenting a curriculum of internally developed courses available for students in grades 3 through 12 to help them understand how financial literacy and classroom skills apply to real-life situations and can lead to insurance careers. In 2019, we taught 203 courses to more than 5,400 students. Since 2013, we’ve taught courses to more than 33,000 elementary, middle and high school students across the country.
To support education and our communities, we also donate PC equipment and office supplies to educational institutions.
